Benefits of Biogas plants:

·                     A non-polluting and renewable source of energy is created in biogas plants.

·                     Kitchen Waste, Canteen Waste, Food Waste, Cow Dung, Poultry Litter can be used to generate Biogas for Cooking.

·                     It is an excellent way of Waste to Energy Conversion, reduces its expenditure on firewood as well as LPG.

·                     Biogas plants produce enriched organic manure. This can be used as fertilizers. Can be used for garden s or can be sold in the market, to a nursery or farmers located nearby.

·                     The lifetime of a typical bio-gas plant is around 15-20 years.

Portable Biogas Plants are small units designed for Household and Institutional purposes which generate energy from the biodegradable wastes. This will help in creating a hygienic environment and healthy surrounding for individual household as well as general public.

What is Biogas?

·                     Bio-Gas is produced through a bio-chemical process in which certain types of bacteria convert the organic wastes into useful bio-gas. Since the useful gas originates from biological process, it has been termed as bio-gas.

·                     Methane Gas(CH₄) is the main constituent of Biogas.

·                     During this digestion/fermentation process, separation takes place in the an-aerobic digester.

·                     The biogas digester is provided with gas holder wherein generated biogas is stored and further utilized for cooking in the canteen.

·                     Sludge can be used as organic manure.

Biogas Production: Raw Materials:

The waste generated in kitchen/Canteen in the form of vegetable refuse, stale cooked and uncooked food, kitchen waste, dry leaves, green grass, animal remains extracted, waste milk can be mixed with water & poured in Biogas Plant daily.

Use of Canteen/Kitchen Waste Biogas Plant

Cooking Gas:

1.     As the gas is generated in the main tank, the dome is slowly lifted up & it reaches a maximum height holding biogas.

2.     It is taken through pipeline to the Oven. This gas burns with a blue flame and can be used for cooking as well. The potential use of this gas would be for a canteen.

3.     Biogas will be generated daily for Cooking.

Manure:

1.                   The manure generated is of high quality and can be used for our nursery. The Slurry comes out from the Outlet.

2.                   Slurry water can be used daily.

Advantages of Canteen/Kitchen Waste Biogas Plant:

·                     Efficient disposal of kitchen waste can be eco-friendly as well as cost effective. While calculating the cost effectiveness of such waste disposal, one has to consider more than monitory aspects.

·                     The dumping of uncooked food, vegetables refuse like peels of various vegetables, rotten potatoes and tomatoes, coriander leaves, etc. in unmanned area may not be very civilized. It can also lead to population growth of nuisance animals. It is undoubtedly unhygienic and can pose threat to the habitat. These factors will add to the value of such plants.
